- Toddler-Friendly Size: These egg bites are the perfect size for tiny hands, making them easy for toddlers to pick up and eat on their own. They also work well for baby-led weaning or as a finger food snack.
- Customizable: You can make these protein egg bites your own by adding any toppings or mix-ins your toddler enjoys. Whether it’s chopped veggies, diced ham, or extra cheese, the possibilities are endless! You can also sneak in extra nutrients by adding spinach or other leafy greens.
- Great for On-the-Go: These bites are easy to make ahead and store, making them a convenient option for busy mornings or snacks on the go. You can pack them for school, playdates, or road trips.
- Make-Ahead Friendly: Protein egg bites can be made in batches and stored in the fridge or freezer, making it easy to have a nutritious meal ready at a moment’s notice.
Ingredients
- 8 eggs
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional: salt or garlic powder
- Optional toppings: chopped veggies, sausage, bacon, spinach, etc.
How to Make Healthy Toddler Egg Bites
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a muffin tin with nonstick spray or butter.
- Blend the Base: In a blender, combine the eggs, cottage cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese. Blend until smooth and creamy. You can also add a pinch of salt or garlic powder for extra flavor if desired.
- Pour into Muffin Pan: Pour the egg mixture into the greased muffin tin, filling each cup about 3/4 full.
- Add Toppings: This is where the fun comes in! Add any toppings you like—chopped veggies like bell peppers or spinach, cooked sausage or bacon, or even a little extra cheese. Make sure to press them down gently so they settle into the egg mixture.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the egg bites are set in the middle and slightly golden around the edges.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the protein egg bites to cool slightly before serving. They should pop right out of the muffin tin with ease!
Substitutions
Eggs: For a lighter version, substitute whole eggs with egg whites. Or for an egg-free option, use flax eggs.
Cottage Cheese: Ricotta cheese can be used as a substitute for cottage cheese because it has a similar texture and flavor. For dairy-free egg bites, take out the cottage cheese and add two extra eggs or use a plant-based yogurt.
Cheddar Cheese: Feel free to try other cheeses like mozzarella, feta, or goat cheese.
Add-ins: Customize your egg bites with ingredients like chopped vegetables (bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms), cooked meats (sausage, bacon, ham), or herbs and spices for more flavor.
Storing Extra Cottage Cheese Egg Bites
- Refrigerator: Store any leftover egg bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat them in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds before serving.
- Freezer: To freeze, let the egg bites cool completely, then place them in a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be frozen for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight and warm them in the microwave or oven before serving.

Can’t wait to try the egg bites
recipe looks great. I can’t wait to try it.
I made these for my almost 2 yr old twin grand babies. Kai loved them but Mateo is picky and wouldn’t even try them. They were a real hit with Kai and I will definitely be making these again. I added ham and some extra cheese. Meanwhile I’m continuing to hunt for something Mateo will eat…….
