This east toddler french toast is made in the microwave and is a go to breakfast that I make for my kids! When I feel like making something yummy, but want to change it up from what we normally eat, I make 1-bowl microwave french toast every time! It’s definitely something that you can add into your rotation to change up breakfast a little bit at your house. It literally takes 5 minutes, with only 5 ingredients. My kids love it and I hope yours will too!

1-bowl microwave french toast in topped with blueberries in a white bowl

This 1-bowl microwave french toast is the easiest toddler breakfast! Ready in 5 minutes with just 5 ingredients, it’s soft, sweet, and perfect for busy mornings.

Why 1-Bowl Microwave French Toast is Great for Toddlers

Quick & Easy – Let’s be real: if it takes more than 10 minutes, it’s probably not happening on a weekday morning. This one’s done in under 5, start to finish, and only needs a few ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Kid-Friendly – Something about soft, warm bread with a hint of sweetness just works for little ones. My toddler devours this every time, and I love that it’s not just empty carbs — there’s an egg in there for a little protein boost too.

Minimal Cleanup – It’s all made in one bowl and cooked in the same dish. No stovetop, no pan to scrub. Just one bowl to toss in the dishwasher when you’re done.

Customizable – You can totally make this your own. Add a pinch of cinnamon, toss in some blueberries or banana slices, drizzle with peanut butter… whatever your kid likes. It’s a great “clean out the fridge” kind of breakfast too.

Perfect for Toddlers – The texture is soft but not mushy, and it’s easy for little fingers to scoop or pick up. Plus, since it cools off quickly, you’re not stuck blowing on every bite for five minutes.

What You Will Need

  1. 1 egg
  2. 1 tbsp maple syrup
  3. 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  4. 2 tbsp milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  5. 2 slices of bread (toasted)

How to Make This One-Bowl French Toast

1. In a microwave-safe bowl, whisk together the egg, maple syrup, vanilla, and milk.

2. Cut the toasted bread into 1/2-inch pieces and add them to the bowl, ensuring they are fully coated with the egg mixture.

3. If there’s excess egg mixture at the bottom, add a bit more bread to soak it up.

4. Microwave for 90 seconds, stirring halfway through to ensure even cooking.

5. Let it cool slightly before serving. Top with fruit or a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Substitutions

  1. Bread- Use gluten-free bread if needed
  2. Milk- any non-dairy milk will work
  3. Egg- use a flax egg instead

Storing Extra 1-Bowl Microwave French Toast

If you want to make extra, you can store this in the fridge for about 3 days, and the freezer for 3 months! When you are ready to reheat, cook in the microwave for 15 second increments. Make sure it is completely cooled before serving it to your child.

Notes

Make sure that the bread fully soaks up the egg mixture. If there is leftover egg mixture at the bottom, it will just turn into cooked egg. Add more bread if there’s extra mixture! I love to sprinkle a bit of cinnamon over the top before I cook it, so feel free to change things up however you feel it would be yummy!

Common Questions

Can I add anything to the microwave french toast?

  • Absolutely! This recipe is super flexible. You can stir in a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla for extra flavor. Soft fruits like sliced banana or a few strawberries work well, too—just make sure they’re cut small if serving to toddlers.

Is this easy french toast recipe allergy-friendly?

  • It can be! Use your favorite dairy-free milk and an egg substitute (like a flax egg) to make it egg- and dairy-free. For gluten-free needs, choose a gluten-free bread. Always double-check ingredient labels based on your child’s specific allergies.

How do I reheat it?

  • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, microwave for about 15–30 seconds until warm. You can also reheat it on the stovetop in a small skillet if you prefer a slightly crispier texture.

  • 2 pieces bread
