Ravioli Lasagna

This is a SUPER EASY, toddler friendly, family dinner that I love to make! Like most of my recipes, it only has five ingredients and is super yummy! Your whole family is going to love this dinner.

When it comes to pleasing picky eaters, a classic lasagna is often a hit. But what if you could achieve that same comforting taste with a fraction of the effort? That’s where Ravioli Lasagna comes into play! This twist on traditional lasagna combines the convenience of store-bought ravioli with the rich flavors of ground beef, marinara sauce, and gooey cheese. In this blog post, I’ll share why this dish is perfect for toddlers, step-by-step instructions on how to make it, and tips for storing any leftovers.

Why Ravioli Lasagna Is Great for Toddlers

  1. Familiar Flavors: The familiar taste and texture of ravioli make it appealing to young ones. It’s a great way to introduce your toddler to the flavors of lasagna without the fuss.

  3. Minimal Prep: With store-bought ravioli and a simple layering technique, this dish requires minimal preparation, making it ideal for busy parents.
  4. Family-Friendly: Ravioli Lasagna is a meal that the whole family can enjoy together. It’s a crowd-pleaser that satisfies both adults and kids.

How to Make Ravioli Lasagna

Ingredients:

  • 18 oz ravioli (I used cheese and spinach flavor by the brand Giovanni Rana)
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set the beef aside.
  3. In an oven-safe baking dish (either 7×11 or 8×8 inches), start assembling your Ravioli Lasagna. Begin by spreading half of the ravioli in a single layer at the bottom of the dish.
  4. Next, pour half of the marinara sauce evenly over the layer of ravioli.
  5. Now, add half of the browned ground beef on top of the sauce layer.
  6. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the beef.
  7. Repeat the layers one more time, starting with the remaining ravioli, followed by marinara sauce, ground beef, and finishing with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until the lasagna is heated all the way through, and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Once done, remove the foil and broil for a few minutes until the cheese is beautifully browned and bubbly on top.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor and color.

Storage

  • Refrigeration: If you have leftovers, allow the lasagna to cool to room temperature, then cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • Freezing: Ravioli Lasagna can also be frozen for later enjoyment. Slice it into portions, wrap each portion in plastic wrap or foil, and place them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Freeze for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

Feeding Lasagna to Toddlers

When I feed this lasagna to my kids, I like to cut up the ravioli into small pieces so that they can more easily grab the ravioli, or pick it up with a fork. I love to serve with a side of bread and salad, but you can do whatever your family likes best! Here is a picture of how I serve it to my kids (top-3 years, bottom 16 months. And yes, my 16 month old eats more than my 3 year old):

Ravioli Lasagna

Servings: 6 people

Ingredients 

  • 18 oz ravioli , (store bought! I use Giovanni Rana brand)
  • 24 oz jar of marinara sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese
  • basil, for garnish

Instructions 

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set the beef aside.
  • In a 8×8 or 7×11 baking dish, layer half the ravioli, then half the marinara sauce, half the meat, and half the cheese.
  • Repeat these steps.
  • Cover and cook for 35 minutes or until it is heated through. Once it is done cooking, you can broil for an extra few minutes to get the golden brown cheese on top.
  • Garnish with chopped basil if desired!

  1. Do you think this could be prepped and frozen in the casserole dish? Maybe defrost in the fridge for a day and cook at the same temp and time?
