Why This Recipe Is Great for Toddlers and Families

These Churro French Toast Bites are soft, bite-sized, and easy for little hands to pick up. Hawaiian rolls make the centers fluffy while the egg and milk mixture gives them the classic flavor and texture of French toast.

They are also much easier than making individual pieces of French toast on the stove. Everything goes into one baking dish and cooks at the same time, making this an easy family breakfast for busy mornings or weekends.

For babies and younger toddlers, you can leave off the cinnamon sugar or use less of it. Cut the French toast bites into appropriately sized pieces before serving.

Ingredients

25 Hawaiian rolls
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

For the cinnamon sugar:

2 tablespoons sugar

Optional: Maple syrup for dipping

Yes. You can bake them ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. Reheat them in the morning for an easy make-ahead breakfast for kids.

Can I make these without cinnamon sugar?

Yes. The French toast mixture already contains cinnamon and vanilla, so the bites still have plenty of flavor without the cinnamon sugar topping. This is also a great option when making French toast bites for babies or younger toddlers.

Can I use a different type of bread?

Yes. Another soft dinner roll can work in place of Hawaiian rolls, although the flavor and texture may be slightly different.

What can I serve with French toast bites?

Serve these baked French toast bites with fresh strawberries, blueberries, banana slices, yogurt, eggs, or another breakfast favorite. Older kids may also enjoy dipping them in maple syrup.

How do I know when the French toast bites are done?

The rolls should be lightly golden and the egg mixture should be fully cooked rather than wet or runny. Since ovens can vary, add a few extra minutes if needed.

Are French toast bites good for toddlers?

These soft French toast bites are easy for toddlers to hold and eat. For younger children, leave off or reduce the cinnamon sugar and cut the rolls into an appropriate size for your child’s eating abilities.
