Healthy Fudgesicles

My toddler is loving popsicles this summer! For some reason, I can’t get him to drink smoothies a lot of the time, but I can get him to eat popsicles! So I love to come up with healthy, veggie filled popsicles for him to enjoy! These fudgesicles are super yummy, easy to make, and include a good dose of spinach! I think you are going to love them.

This recipe is actually the same recipe as my chocolate milkshake recipe, but I thought it would be super fun to make these into popsicles! They are the perfect treat to pull out on a hot summer day for my kids. I love that they are getting a helping of spinach in the popsicle as well. They are super easy to make, and lots healthier than the store bought version!

What I Love About These Fudgesicles

1. Nutrient-Packed Goodness: The star of these fudgesicles is the addition of spinach. This leafy green powerhouse is a nutritional superhero, boasting vitamins A, C, and K, as well as essential minerals like iron and calcium. By blending spinach into the mixture, you’re effortlessly adding valuable nutrients to your kids’ diets without any fuss.

2. Naturally Sweetened: Ripe bananas bring natural sweetness to these fudgesicles, reducing the need for additional sugar. This makes them an excellent alternative to store-bought frozen treats that often contain excessive refined sugars and artificial additives. By using wholesome, naturally sweet ingredients, you can indulge your kids’ sweet tooth without the guilt.

3. Healthy Fats: The inclusion of nut butter in this recipe introduces a dose of healthy fats. These good fats play a crucial role in your children’s growth and development, supporting brain function and overall well-being. Additionally, they lend a velvety texture to the fudgesicles, making them irresistibly creamy.

4. No Artificial Additives: Unlike many commercial popsicles, these healthy fudgesicles are free from artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. Instead, you have full control over the quality of ingredients that go into them. It’s a fantastic feeling knowing that you’re providing your kids with a nourishing treat that’s made with love and wholesome components.

5. Vegetable Boost: Getting kids to eat their greens can be a challenge, but these fudgesicles are the perfect solution. With the spinach disguised in the chocolaty goodness, your little ones won’t even notice the added veggies. It’s a win-win situation – they get to enjoy a delightful frozen treat while unknowingly increasing their veggie intake. Just make sure that you are still including veggies regularly in their diet!

6. Customizable and Allergy-Friendly: This fudgesicle recipe is incredibly versatile. You can easily adapt it to suit your family’s dietary needs and preferences. Whether you opt for dairy or plant-based milk and choose almond, peanut, or another nut butter, the possibilities are endless. Furthermore, it’s an allergy-friendly option that allows everyone to join in on the tasty fun.

7. Family Bonding Time: Creating these fudgesicles together can be a wonderful bonding experience for you and your kids. Involving them in the kitchen not only fosters a love for cooking but also encourages them to try new foods. Plus, the anticipation of waiting for the fudgesicles to freeze is a shared excitement that brings joy to the whole family.

What You Will Need

  1. Bananas- the bananas add the natural sweetness to these delicious fudgesicles!
  2. Cocoa powder- any kind will work!
  3. Spinach- the best ingredient of all, and no one will notice!
  4. Nut butter- use any nut butter you want.
  5. Vanilla extract- provides a delicious taste
  6. Milk- milk to add creaminess to the fudgsicle!

How To Make

Step 1: Get Your Blender Ready

Prepare your trusty blender because that’s where the magic happens! I love this recipe for its simplicity and ease.

Step 2: Blend the Goodness

Toss in the banana slices, cocoa powder, and the nutritious green superhero – spinach! Your little ones won’t even taste the spinach, but they’ll surely enjoy the added benefits.

Step 3: Nutty Indulgence

Now, add the nut butter of your choice. Almond, peanut, or cashew butter works wonders here, adding a creamy texture and a delightful nutty essence.

Step 4: A Dash of Vanilla

A teaspoon of pure vanilla extract is all you need to elevate the flavors and make these fudgesicles taste just like the ones you loved as a child – only healthier!

Step 5: Creamy Base

Pour in the milk – whether you prefer dairy or plant-based, this ingredient brings the necessary creaminess to our fudgesicles.

Step 6: Blend Until Smooth

Now, blend everything together until you achieve a smooth, luscious mixture. Make sure all the ingredients are well incorporated, and the spinach leaves are entirely blended for a seamless, enticing texture.

Step 7: Pour and Freeze

Carefully pour the mixture into your favorite popsicle molds, and don’t forget to add the popsicle sticks. Pop them into the freezer for a few hours or until completely frozen.

Step 8: Taste the Joy!

Once frozen, it’s time for the most exciting part – enjoying these healthy fudgesicles with your little ones! Watch their eyes light up with happiness as they savor the rich, chocolaty goodness that’s secretly brimming with nutrients.

Substitutions

  1. Nut butter- you can use peanut butter, other nut butter, or sunflower seed butter in this recipe.
  2. Milk- use any non dairy milk as you need it!

Storage

Store these delicious fudgesicles in the freezer for up to 3 months! After freezing, I usually transfer them to a ziplock bag and store them that way until they are gone.

Tips

  1. To get the popsicle out of the silicone mold, run warm water over the bottom of the popsicle until it slides loose. Alternatively, you can fill a bowl with warm water and set the popsicles in it until the popsicles come free.
